That is the cold hard truth. 99% of all overweight people do not have a underactive thyroid or any other metabolic problem. They have too many calories comming in and too few being burned so they end up with a large energy (fat) store. Recent studies suggest that obestity starts very young due to parents overfeeding their kids and not allowing them or encouraging them to play outside as much (Too much TV watching and video game playing). Babies feed formula, cereal and lots of fruit juice were 80% more likely to be obese by their toddler years vs babies that were breast feed and were given little cereal and whole fruit. If you have a young child who is obese that makes them more likely to keep packing on the pounds into adolescence and adulthood. The worst part is that most people and their parents wrongly blame poor genetics rather than admit they have a eating and inactivity problem. So much easier to place blame on something you cannot control vs something you can fix. Overeaters are addicts just like alcohol and drug users and the first step to fixing an addiction is admitting you have a problem only then can you confront your issues and fix you problem.
So much truth in this statement. Only thing I dont agree with is the baby thing but thats from my own personal experience and observation between my son and a few other babies amongst friends and family doesnt really make that part false.

the only time genetics plays a role in your body composition is how fast and how much muscle you can build and even that can be overcome. unless you are physically handicapped to where you cant move there is no excuse for being obese.

we need to stop giving obese people handicapped placards and start creating special parking spaces for them in the back to encourage them to walk more.

The baby thing is very true if you consider most bottle fed babies are overfed because often times the parents give them a bottle constantly because they are crying and the act of suckling soothes the baby. Mix some juice or cereal and you have something that is way too calorie dense. Also it is much easier (read less calories expended) for babies to get milk from a bottle vs the breast. Parents of bottle fed babies also tend to introduce adult foods way too soon (often extremely calorie dense foods like pizza, potatos, pasta, cheese) which also exacerbates weight gain issues. Not all bottle fed babies are obese but they are at 80% greater risk of being obese vs breast fed babies. I mean exclusively breast fed babies no supplementation of other food for the first 2 years or so.

So, with eating plenty and healthy I am down 20lbs in a little over two weeks. My diet mainly consists of lots of veggies, and lean meats chicken breast and steak. I have been eating alot of mongolian food, because of the way they prepare it.

ya i can see that. my son gets 4 6oz bottles a day and no more, 2 gerber veggies or fruit then a little snack, too many parents out there just give their kids some sort of food to shut them up instead of trying to actually figure out whats wrong.

OP if your drastic weight loss doesnt slow down soon id reccomend taking in more calories. typically when you first start working out you lose more than average. but 20lbs in say less than 3 weeks thats just too much and will most likely cause problems if you dont change things up.

poll commissioned by CBC News suggested people living in Manitoba and Saskatchewan lag behind the rest of the country when it comes to healthy lifestyles.

The Prairie residents said they drank the most soft drinks, ate the most fast food, don't sleep or exercise enough, and don't do enough to limit the amount of sugar in their diets, the poll suggests.

As she purchased a slurpie, Winnipeg resident Tracy Man was surprised to learn that the large-size drink contains up to 39 teaspoons of sugar.
"I think I will enjoy it, even though I know about the sugar consumption," Man said. "I'll just have to watch my sugar intake for the rest of the day."

A teaspoon of sugar is 15 calories, noted Phyllis Reid-Jarvis, a registered dietician in Winnipeg.

"The research shows us that on average, we're taking in over 300 extra calories a day," said Reid-Jarvis. "That is very significant because when you add that up, in a week, that's over 2,100 calories," from sugary products like fruit juice or even yogurt with added fruit.

    Reid-Jarvis suggests that Canadians:

    - Eat fruit instead of nibbling fruit bars or drinking fruit juice.

    - Watch for fructose, glucose, corn syrup and malt on ingredient lists.

    - Consider substituting for hot sauce or tomatoes instead of sugary condiments like ketchup.

I agree with this 100%. All I see is fat people. One thing I can say in the Prairies defense is we have such harsh winters that people choose to stay indoors rather then face the -45c weather. I really wish Canada would impose a "fat tax" on fatty/high cal foods (ie, chips, fast food, chocolate bars) and use the money for our overburdened healthcare. Or at the very least make gym memberships a tax right-off. There is absolutely no incentive for people to go to the gym in Canada, Hips and knees are shot, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, all because you've been morbidly obese your whole life. No worries, free healthcare.
