at the back....
nice build in progress

Eh well I didn't really have any interest in making my car AWD. I guess what I'm trying to do is blend together a very traditional looking hot rod (chopped top, low stance, no fenders, i-beam front axle, definitely not a ♠♠♠♠ty looking "rat rod"...) with a modern turbocharged efi power plant. Hoping to show all the old school "a hot rod's gotta have a hemi or a flathead or an old buick nailhead or something" guys a thing or two about high-power small displacement engines.
BTW I brought the b207r home today. It's suuuuper clean. I'm really glad that I got it.
Couple more pics to kinda show how things started and what I'm trying to accomplish.
When I first brought it home:
What I'm going for:
I got the front axle mounted recently but I haven't taken any updated pics. Maybe I'll get a chance this weekend.
Oh I guess I do have some pics.
Cut off the front of the frame:
Front cross member in place:
Side view of cross member - this is also where the transverse spring mounts:
I machined up some "bungs" that are welded into the frame rail to mount the heim joints on the end of the split wishbone:
And here it is:
Still gotta do the spring shackles:

Looking good! Should be a pretty unique setup. Let me know when you're ready for a turbo manifold, I am sure we could fit one from a Solstice on there easily... unless you are set on something custom.

Whoa been a while... not much to update with the engine stuff but the frame is coming along. The rear suspension is mostly done. The rear axle is in place and I got some trailing arms made up. Also got a pretty neat panhard bar in there that I'm kinda proud of. The back end will have air bags and when everything is air'd out the panhard bar tucks up into the rear cross member and disappears. Kinda cool. The front end is almost done. Finally got the shackle mounts welded onto the wishbones. Just gotta do the shock mounts and some other stuff. I'm hoping to have the car on the ground as a roller sometime this summer. Guess we'll see how that goes.
Awesome build man. Totally different from the de-facto hot rod. Excellent work!
Wow man, sounds like some decent progress. I have been tossing around the idea of doing an ecotec in a 33 coupe, sorta inspired by your project, just I would be using a factory five kit car.
Keep up the good work and get us some pics!
sweet project!
