    Default HID question....

so i finally have the money to get me some HID's. i dont understand the intensity/color rating thing. its also confusing cause i've heard that the colors also vary depending on whether its 35w or 55w. a little $.02 to help me understand this stuff so i can make a decision?

4300 is the color of sunlight. If you go with a 6k bulb and a 55w ballast the more wattage will bring the bulb color closer to a 5k bulb color but will still be very bright. After about 8k the bulbs get too bluish and are for more show purposes and will not give you the best sight at night. Hope that helps.

just get the 8k. you wont regret it and will appreciate having a little color for the money you're going to spend.

I'd say that if you get a 55w ballast the color temp will be 1k lower then what it is bcuz of the more wattage you put through it. My 6ks will a 55w ballast are more like 5ks. And I can see just about everything. Just dont put a 55w ballast on the fog lights, too much heat in a confined area. Good luck!

I highly recommend going no higher than 6000k . Theres a large drop in lumen(actual light intensity) output past 6000k. As it is 6000k is only about 2/3 the output of 4300k. 8000k HID actually have less output than a quality 9007 halogen. 5000k is pure white. 8000k look blue. no matter what color you go youll never get the flicker or intense color as a proper projector will ( I assume youre doing the install in stock lights)

Yeah 6k was about as high as I was willing to go. With 55w ballast they look great in my retros with just a tiny hint of blue. I like it but if you want a true pure white look go for the 5k like others have stated already. Of course in the stock housing they will look a bit different since theres more scattering of the light going on. Good luck sir!

And you won't be able to see dick

You don't buy HIDs for the color, you buy them for the extra lumens, or measured light energy

That's like getting a turbo just to have a blow off valve

OP you get what you pay for

I've gone through 4 sets of DDM bulbs...and don't HIDs period unless you're going to use a relay

Also note that using the single bulb in a stock housing will:

    A) blind everyone else

    B) make you lose your highbeams

    C) blind everyone else

    D blind everyone else

I love my 6000ks and would never go any higher than that......

Now I am thinking of going to 55w ballasts though.

i had the 6000k ordered. will have em installed on sunday. already thought of how to avoid blinding too many people (aiming my lights down a bit). i would buy colored bulbs, but have had bad experience with em. burn out too quickly, and no i didnt touch the bulbs
