    Question disribution block

can anyone think of a reason why i couldn't use the brake distribution block/ proportioning valve to replace the ABS unit on my J? I haven't had ABS since about 2 months after I got the car, darn thing liked to let me slide sideways on the black ice in Florida. then after I did the Ecotec swap the new PCM didn't have ABS and I've never been worried about it. I'm looking to turbo the car when I have all my ducks in a row, and simply want to maximize what little space I have.

You'll need to make brake lines for the car or at least modify them. Personally if you are really going to go that far get an aftermarket adjustable prop valve and install that instead

well i was looking at it, all the lines going to the calipers would be fine, all I would need to do is get two lines made to go from the master cylinder to the block. *FYI I have disc brakes from a Sebring vert for the rear, not the drums

there are lots of people doing a rear disc swap to Neon SRT4 stuff, I couldn't find any Neons at the bone with the parts I needed. I did however find a 98 Sebring vert with backing plates I thought might fit so i grabbed them. after a quick just for size I machined the plates to fit my hubs on the drill press, had lines made, etc. it still uses most on the same stuff as a Neon swap. hers some pictures for those that are interested.

The reason is why go through the work to take out one piece that doesn't work and isn't designed for your brake system just to install another one not designed for your system.....put in some aftermarket proportioning valves and do it right. Or leave it alone.

Summit racing brand or SSBC make combo splitter/prop valves.

You can just put splitters and then adjustable valves for the rear. The splitter/prop valves that ^he^ is talking about are pretty neat but to properly use one it would be best to change the master cylinder too.(depends on how your car is equipped, they changed from a dual bore cylinder to a single bore sometime during the time the ECO showed up.....I forget exactly when, but if you look up the bleed procedure for your car in a factory manual you can tell by which order it uses. traditional RR,LR,RF,LF is old style dual bore, RR,LF,LR,RF is new style.

if your car is 00+ and you're using an 00+ NON abs distro block its a direct bolt on swap.

I'm not sure whats going on in here with discussion about parts not designed for your car or whatever... the Jbody is a Jbody.

the threads and alignment of the lines are exactly the same from an ABS to a non ABS car. the only thing you'd need different is the support bracket that bolts to the master cylinder. Otherwise, its a bolt-on part. No custom lines, no bending, no nothing.

I reread my own post there, I can't find a non abs unit from a J anywhere. some places are telling me they can order it, only to find out they really can't get it either. the local dealer doesn't even have it. I was looking at the one in my dads Cobalt when I was changing his oil for him, and they look very similar, I was thinking I might be able to use that instead. the big outside different is that the lines from the master cylinder to the block are on the sides instead of the back. the units I find online that are "universal" are all manual proportioning unit, and the majority would require me to use two units. I dunno at this point. going to have to call around to some junkyards out of state all the ones where I'm at now bite.

forgot to say just so no one gets in a twist that I would prefer to use the non ABS unit for a JBody

    .
The part about things not designed for his car is the fact that he did a disc swap, so why bother hunting for an OEM part when its not the right part anyway.......
