    Default 4x100 SS/SC brake conversion

Figured I'd post an explanation for my 4 lug SS/SC brake conversion. Rotor mount face to knuckle mounting face measure the same 5 lug to 4 lug, front and rear. Mounting bolt pattern is the same as well so 4 lug hubs bolt directly onto the FE5 rear trailing arm. The front knuckle is identical across all models except for the LNF. The problem is the hub center diameters. 4 lug hub centers are smaller than the 5 lugs. You need the equivalent of wheel centering rings for the rotors and a 4x100 template to accurately drill new holes in the 5x110 rotors. If you can get centering rings and acuratly drilled rotors the rest is bolt-on.

could of sworn i discussed this with you a few years ago...also r1concepts said they would drill the rotors with the right bolt pattern for me, asked them for a brembo rotor with 4x100 for the swap into my cobalt

Good to know a source for predrilled rotors. You think they could make the centering rings too or do they make the hub centers to spec as well?

they'd probably make them .. arent the ss centers larger? .. if they were smaller i'm sure they could open them up but without spacers it's a no go i think.. you have pics of your setup?

Yeah the SS/SC rotor hub centers are bigger. I didnt have time to take pics but I'll see what I can do later today.

cool man.. i just am curious to see everything together.. i'd like to be the first 4 lug on brembos but i doubt that'll happen

i think my passnger side reAR DRUM is taking a ♠♠♠♠ on me anyways .. so depending on price i might look into the swap .. ..

did you get an adjustable prop valve or did it just work dropped in

Didnt get pics today, work conspired against me. I've got to align the car so I'm heading in to work real early tomorrow so I should have time then.

I was looking at doing the Brembos originally but the cost, even with used parts was so high I just couldnt justify it.

As far as cost my guess for the front and rear conversions is about $900.00ish total. The biggest cost was the rear trailing arm assembly. Complete with everything it was 495.00+ tax. I needed a new rear arm because of the last suspension I ran (cut it up some). Mr. Powell has been teasing a drum conversion that may reduce that cost, dont know though.

Finally, my car started life as a bottom of the barrel, bace model LS. My car was more stripped than a chick wearing two pasties and a cork. That being said for the time being I am retaining the factory prop valve. However, I have researched the replacment of that with a Summit brand splitter/adjustable prop valve. The factory non-ABS lines have 2 different thread pitches and the split is RF/LR, LF/RR. To make it work you need to get the appropriate fittings to match the aftermarket valve and then cut, bend, and flare the lines to match. Simple enough just not sure I need it yet. First I'm going to try it as is at the track. Depending on results my next step was different pad compounds front to rear. Final option is the adjustable valve. As for the ABS cars, best of luck, cause I believe you are stuck with what ya got. Different pad compounds, if your tracking the car, I believe would be the only option.

Finally got some pictures. I managed to drill that rear rotor accurately enough with a 1/2" bit for it to fit. All the others where just off enough so I ran a 5/8" through them for clearance. I used a small drill press with a variable speed electric drill. Only 3 holes have to be drilled. One of the original 5x110 holes have to elongated to fit the stud. I used a Dremel with a router attachment and a high speed tungston carbide bit for that. May not be pretty with the wheels off but it works just fine.

goodwork. tough job and you did well to do it for that cost including a rear twisting beam. The key for you imho is accurately machined centering rings

is it the pictures or my eyesight, or is your rear centering ring not "centering" it looks heavily moon shaped.
