That's 100% up to you guys, imo. Its your site and you set-up the rules. A simple popular vote system works well and is very simple. What you've got works well, but takes a decent bit more time from the 3 of you on the Admin/Moderation team.

Like I said before... if the obligations outside of this website outweigh the obligations here, then do away with the Mod vote portion, so you aren't robbing the members of something that I believe most of us enjoy. With that said, I think that the reward should be a little bit greater. I don't know what you've been doing/planning with your "actual" reward, but as far as site recognition is concerned... I think y'all need to step your game up.

As of right now, the only thing I notice happening is the winner's thread gets pasted to the home page. How lame. Give the VOTM its only section of the home page. Put up a decent sized picture of the winner's car, not some 100px by 100px oddjob like cssdotnet does. It should grab people's attention. "Damn, that mo-fo has a clean ass ride. O Damn, that's because he's/she's the VOTM."

Just suggestions.

I agree with this. One of the other sites has a different VOTM in the header every time the home page loads. More complicated but definitely gives it a good look and feel. I also think that VOTM winners could get something like the Hardcore, Stage 2, 10k Pimp markers under their username. Just thoughts.

Montly winners get a banner on another site I visit and it really is a nice touch.

I can make a userbar for winners if you guys want that. I have no problem with it going draught popular vote if you guys are okay with that. Ill have see what I can do to make the winner more visible on the home page.
