Default Does the spare tire have a purpose in the delta platform

As in the design of the car, in the event of the crash.. I know some cars sparetire was part of the rear crumple zones etc.. to absorb some force

But I mean looking in our car.. there is space around the tire...I could probably rip out by hand that piece of metal holding it in place

Beyond driving on it in the advent of a flat tire I know of no usage.

If you get hit hard enough from the rear for you to be in danger... I don't think the spare tire being there will save you.

GM spare tires no longer are relevant to crash results as the cars are designed to hold them but shipped with sealant kits usually. Even the last of the balts had "optional" spare tires. The spare tire well may very well indeed be designed into the crash worthiness of the car, but the spare tire isn't.

I was required to remove the spare both times I've been to the track.
