Default Mix Matching Pads Good or Bad?

I am getting a steal of a deal on some r-comps so I definately need to step up with some race pads. My question is, is it okay to run race pads up front and leave my HP+ pads on the back? I know that I don't have enough experience yet to run r-comps but I can't turn down the deal. Another thing is that I can't make up my mind on which pads to run. Any recommendations?

I understand that race pads aren't a good street pad and know why. They will only be on the car for race day. John have you had bad experiences with HP+ pads?

i am not fond of hawk pads but apparently they have gotten way better the past few years. On Delta I run stock ferodo hp 1000 for track.
brakes operate on pad tp disc deposition so the pad material is important on the rotor and swapping in and out is bad karma technically

So your saying that even with LSJ brakes you would run the stock pads that are on the brembo's? I am sorry for not giving all the details but I am definately going to have seperate rotors for the race pads. So far I have enjoyed my experiences with HP+'s but I have got them to the point where they start to fade later in the day at RA. Next Friday I will be up at RA again but with r-comps this time and I want pads that can handle the added grip.

the stock lsj pad is not bad. I had pagids made for LSJ they work awesome . But you need more rotor no matter what. I may have some Pagid pads around still I will look. Carobotech did a vey good race pad for cobalt as well , but some of these pads tear the heck out of the rotor. Hawk are good for tearing up the rotor...

Its not worth upgrading the lsj caliper to the larger 311 mm floating rotor, brembo packages are so cheap now from CED on their November madness special.

Rims aren't though. Unless you want to run spacers.

5mm spacer is kosher with an lsj rim and clears the brembos....

I run Cobalt Friction XR1 on track, but I'm in a TC. I've tried a few compounds in back including stock, Hawk HPS, and Hawk HP+. The HP+ are the most aggressive, but they are noisy. Noisier than my XR1, which are actually quite silent, and work from 50F quite easily. I drive on the XR1s from the track to the hotel, which can be up to 20 miles away. Work great in 50F pouring rain on track too. They are rated from 50F and above.

If you're running HP+ on track, you will glaze the rotors. It's inevitable. It's a matter of temp. Get pads that are more appropriate. I've had mixed results with Pagids. They love leaving horribly uneven deposits, to the point where I thought it would break something. Like my arms...

What other pad companys/choices are out there? My plan was Powerslot cryo rotors front and rear with Hawk pads to replace the factory LSJ stuff. Now I'm not sure what to buy. Any recomendations?

I'm a big Cobalt Friction fan. Have used their pads for many many years now. Raybestos has some great compounds too. Hawk makes some dependable pads, but they are very rotor aggressive, and I think there's better stuff available.

I was thinking about going with the drilled and slotted rotors from AC Delco and get the AC Delco ceramic pads as well.

That is why my brakes start to fade around 15 minutes into a 25 minute session. What I am going to end up doing is get a seperate set of rotors and pads in the front strickly for the track.

Only if you like to play connect the dots are drilled rotors good. lol John eventually I am going to be swapping over to brembo's but I have other things that I need to take care of on the car first. Too bad I am not going to be able to take advantage of Toms deal.

I found an SSBC front BBK for $500. I'm contemplating right now. Any opinions?

well skipped over to the ssbc web site and the price is 889 something internet pricing.
so the 1.00 x 12 thick rotor sounds very good. thats 25 mm ; 12 inches is 304 mm compares to the stock LSJ rotor which is thicker at 28 mm and a little smaller in diameter at 285 mm iirc. The BBK race LSJ set up was 28mm by 315 and the floating rotor I do for the LNF is 28mm by 311 mm; I may have diameters off a bit its late and i am brain ded.

the brembo package that CED has right now is a much better value. the stock rotors are 311 x 26 mm so bigger and the calipers are 4 piston monobloc opposed . The SSBC as best as I can see is a 2 piston on one side slider caliper, so frankly not a step up from what you have now stock LSJ which has a much stiffer 36 mm (iirc) single piston steel sliding caliper.

take your 500, save up another couple of hundred and buy the CED set up, will fit your stock redline wheels and way better overall for thermal brake performance.

fit the wheels with spacers and longer studs though right?
