Thread: How to replace on off cruise control switch?

Default How to replace on off cruise control switch?

Ok, can anyone tell me how I can get the switch out on the left hand side of the wheel that turns the cruise on and off? I don't feel like damaging the wheel and possibly more over a stupid attempt at getting this out. I really hope that it can be taken out by the front, but just want to be sure. So can anyone here tell me the right way to get it out?

    F'n seriously?

Keep in mind this is for an Ion, not a Cobalt. I know on the newer 3 spoke Cobalt wheels that you have to take the bag loose to in order to get the silver radio and cruise control covers on the wheel. On the Ion it's got the switches mounted on the middle of the plasticy rubber spokes, sort of like the 05-06 Cobalt wheel . It doesn't seem it should be the same process, I hope not, I don't like the idea of fiddling around with the airbag. Stupid GM engineering

Are you all sure that this is the same process for all Ion RL wheels and 05-06 SS SC wheels?

On the 05-06 SS the wheel is the same as mine, controls look slightly different, but in the same place on the wheel and same shape.

Now the 07+ SS wheels have the controls moounted behid silver tim pieces next to the bag. I can understand the removal for the bag to access these since they are so close

If I still have to remove the bag, I guess I'll have to do so. I kind of want to avoid messing with it if I don't have to, so that's why I posted the pics so everyone gets an idea on what I am working with

I just got in there with a small flatblade on top, one on bottom and assisted it out. I've got an '05 SS and mine were not bolted in, nor were they intended to be. It just kinda sits in there. That being said, you won't need too much force to do it.

Good to hear you all were able to get them out from the front. Seems like taking out from the front made the most logical sense, but sometimes parts don't always go that way. I was thinking WTF when taking out the airbag was being mentioned

No clips or anything holding it in?
