    Default Parking Brake...

    edit: they are disc

Is't suppose to grab more on the passenger side?

I'm having trouble getting it to tighten...

When I pop open the cup holders I also see it's pulling more on the passenger side... so that little bracket that actually pulls the cable is like is like this \

Now the other problem.. I got it so the parking brake doesn't move more than 5 clicks... but it's still not tight?

Passenger side.. is almost locked.. still could be tighter because I can spin the tire.. with some force and the driver side... brakes are draging a bit... this is on 5 clicks.

    fully down no dragging

yes, but if the e brake mechanism in the caliper is fubared its not a serviceable item and you need a caliper. I got new ones just so you know.

proper procedure for adjusting the parking brake on redlines according to my haynes:

lift and support the rear of the vehicle on jack stands. fully release the parking brake. squeeze the sides of the park brake boot to release it and fold the boot back so you can see the adjuster nut.

you will be going back and forth from the cabin of the car to the rear calipers.

loosen the 10mm adjuster nut on the park brake cable which is under the boot at the base of the park brake handle.

check to make sure the park brake arm at the calipers is resting on its stop.

tighten the nut until one of the park brake arms just lifts off its stop. (you'll have to go back and forth to check)

now loosen the nut until the arm goes back to touching the stop and then loosen it one full turn.

pull and release the park brake handle several times

pull the park brake handle up three clicks

check to see if you can spin the rear wheels by hand. they should spin, but with drag.

lift the park brake handle one more click. check to see if you can spin the rear wheels by hand again. the wheels should be locked or very very difficult to turn.

fully release the park brake handle and make sure the wheels spin freely with no drag.

put the boot back in place.

apply and release the parking brake several times.

you should be good to go after that.

i know the procedure... but I skipped all that.. and went to tighten the nut as much as I could without fear of stripping or breaking it.. and still wouldn't hold the drivers side.. passenger side wasn't to bad.. could still turn it with a bit of effort

at that point I was at 3 clicks.. and at full release I had a tiny bit of drag on passenger and none on driver

I did read two things.. 1 on .nub someone put a little c washer in front of the cable to pull it in tighter.. that could work to make my passenger tighten up more..

but I also read a post by maven... saying either need new cable or new calipers

right. most likely calipers the cables are pretty good but also cheap so you can spend under 20 dollars and change the cable. I got those in stock as well.

I still got me warranty.. but holy crap gm should just recall the whole entire rear braking system lol

pins have been lubed 3 or 4 times now, rear rotors have been replaced, rear pads have been replaced, rear rotors resurfaced.. boots for the pins replaced, parking brake tightend so many times, parking brake failed... already.. now this

My fronts.... no problem.... they hardly make a sound.. pretty much they start yelling at me at the end of the track day lol.. and I have 43,000km's on them + 8 or so full track days lol... pads and rotors are perfect

how much maintenance can I do on the rear brakes.. what every tire rotation... I have to lube the rear pins... that's not maintenance or taking care of the car that's a defect

    /rant lol

I know it will get fixed tomorrow, I know people hate gm dealerships.. but when you know a good mechanic there that actually cares.. it's golden..

Yes GM does offer a great warranty, Yes there is a great dealership 5 minutes from my work, Yes I have the delta masters race shop 10 minutes from my house

but that doesn't change the fact the cobalt is a below par ecobox, I'm hoping for gm's sake the cruze does better
