Thread: 2.4L LE5 cooling system

    Default 2.4L LE5 cooling system

I am putting a 2.4L LE5 from a 2006 Solstice into a 29 ford street rod. Can I eliminate the complicated heater/thermostat device at the passenger rear side of the motor? I have a water pump inlet that will let me take "cooled" water directly from the bottom passenger side of the radiator. I also have a blockoff plate to cover the hole where the heater/thermostat device was. The kicker is that I still want to run an accessory heater. How do I plumb to accommodate this? I also need a temp sensor input for the computer. Any flow diagrams available?

    Thanks

the complicated t stat etc is very good. but you can help by using a fwd le5 set up rather than the solstice one, its a bolt on replacement, u may find it packages a little betterfor you... and you have the heater ports off it as well. u risk screwing up the performance and reliability of the ecotec by removing the stock pieces

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll head for the salvage yard to see what they have. Do you know of specific cars that have the unit you reference?

Dont quote me on this as I am not sure.

the ecotec is kinda like a small block so a lot of things are the same. but there are some things that are not.

I am ASSUMING that the cooling system off of any FWD delta (Cobalt, ION, G5) would work. There are some applications that are not delta such as the Malibu, Grand AM, Alero, Vue off the top of my head that might have something to look for as well.

right cobalt are the best imho as the heater comes off the side of the motor. I used that in lieu of the soltstice set up for a north south intall of a 2.4 solstice motor in a '60's manx dunebuggy, in place of the boxer v dub motor
