big hammer. while putting lever pressure on it. I remove the whole IM and shaft and deal with it off the car. They rust in there due to years of no lube etc... Clean/wire brush etc and never seize when you are done. DO NOT lever or hit the alloy IM bracket it will break. Safer to do it off the car.
^^^^^this... pull it out as one. plus its easier to get it back on straight when everythings outta the car.

yea i've used a big dead blow rubber like hammer. Works everytime. some guys use a brass drift if its really hard to get out. Brass won't damage the harder metals......hope that helps too.

So if I pull it out as one unit, what's the best way to get it apart then?

support housing in a large vice and use drift and BFH on the metal plunge joint outer shell
move boot out as much as possible, soak spline with as much penetrating oil as you can and leave it for bit before u attack it with a BFH

It looks like maybe the input shaft seal maybe need replacing too. Should I stick with a GM part?

thats bad. rubber seal is needed, pathetic as it is better than nothing u seen what happens, without the seal it will be much worse
Anyone have a gm part number for the seal?...I think it's call the input shaft seal.

Any word on the # for the seal? I'm about to tackle this problem myself.
I have one, it must have a number, contact Tom@crateenginedepot.com
is this http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...3279&ppt=C0071 it? I've tried emailing Tom with no luck, link above says it works for the F35
Also, is this somewhat easy to install like the crank pulley seal on the side cover? I've seen some horror stories about replacing the shaft seal

Thats not the seal, its a boot, and I got busy today, email gloria@powellraceshop.com she can get you the part number tomorrow
it just slides on the shaft, it takes zero skill to install./
Cool, thanks qwik. Email going out to gloria any minute now.
