    Default What would you do?

    buy an new sti?

or keep balt track day fun time and buy a wrx "awd,4 seater, decent quick" almost perfect DD??

    balt spec:

    09
    46k -kilommmmmettters
    lsd
    gms1
    powell UCR
    powell stg 1 mount

resale value = ♠♠♠♠.. stock or not..

would be at least 2X cheaper to track than the sti too.... and faster too....

from what I have heard trans is the least of the cars problems....... can easily hold gobs of power/along with the whole driveline
motors on the other hand kaboom... unless I pay to get it built aka 6k?ish lame
brakes/tires and gas... will get destroyed at the track.... do agree..

But I still love them lol

    I'm sorry but a wrx isn't a "perfect DD" and just because it's a 4 door doesn't mean it's roomy.

They get mid 20s mpg and the backseat room is terrible for a sedan.

yeah the wrx isnt a favorable dd and the transmissions are junk especially from 02-03. now are you talking about buying a sti or wrx? because first i see wrx and at the very end sti.

sti can be a great track car but i hope you realize what it takes to get anywhere close to reliable 400awhp. they require quite a bit of matienece aswell. not to mention every single thing you buy for the car performance wise needs to be tuned for. they are A LOT more finicy then the lnf cars.

let me clarify.. sell cobalt.. and buy an sti...
keep cobalt and buy a wrx...

sti or wrx would be a 2012 model

and the wrx will be a better ride compared to the cobalt... thus imho a better dd then the cobalt minus gas mileage

DD wise the Cobalt is just as good in the snow as the rex as long as it has g85

So unless you're talking about getting a hatch there's nothing to gain there IMO

As for the STI track car...hooboy...where you're right about the trans, those cars are not glass, but a bit from being track ready/bulletproof.

There's a lot more AM for them and for 2012 they come with SCABs in the front control arms...but you're looking at pricey coilovers, at least a rear diff cooler or better cooling cover, a pair of downpipes, tuning, more tuning, then replacing ♠♠♠♠ when you get some bad gas and get a nice hot session, injectors, more tuning.

Oh and then there's the 15 different modes you gotta set things up for... if you wanna feel like you're on the bridge of the starship enterprise, deal with a blinking LED shift light, and have a car that sounds like an angry boiling pot of water that's crankier than a menopausal exwife when the weather changes that needs you to pay attention to the temp of its 3 differentials...then by all means be my guest.

Great platforms, great cars, but to track em, it's not cheap.

Not to mention the intercooler under the damn hood

thank you for that reply, I want to get rid of the balt.. but the thing is so cheap.....to run at the track.. 46,000km's... - 7-8 track days.... still on my stock pads/rotors, I did change my tires though.. but only cost me $800...

but ^^^^ I would still like to do something in the winter time, I don't have the luxury of year round summer. So at least with the sti I could do rallycross or among the likes <--- but once again more money..

but for DD car is freaking annoying.... creaks, squeek's,rattle from everywhere.. creaks are due to the UCR.. but wouldn't trade that for anything lol

Not saying the the wrx and sti don't rattle because they do just as much as the balt "thank you plastic

the roads I drive 95% of the time is 80kph.. and the tranny does not have a good spot for that... 4th is to high - 5th is to low.....

honestly my point is, I wish I never got into cars more so tracking.... <---- would have been so much cheaper to just drive around in a civic with a fart can, doing ricer flybys

EJ25 is a ticking timebomb. It's a mistake to get a car with one in it. BTDT, won't ever do it again. I wouldn't even dare track it, and I'm a total track junkie.

you can't compare are car built in what 2005.. to a car being built in 2012?!

frig that omg sti makes 750AWHP!!!! and its 2900lbs... the balt was only like 280 sans nitrous.... and was 2350...

frig even the old civic hatches that races now.. 320whp 2000lbs?!

Time attack was an impressive car "was impressive" in 2005....

I mean my stock 09 ss/tc is what 2900lbs.. made 250whp..... tune bump to 290/320... i'm more than halfway of the performance of the time attack.

.. at probably 1/4 the cost + can't even imagine how many hours or should I say days powell motorsports worked on it

but I will be taking everyones advice, and not going the sti route.. mainly engine kaboom...

will keep balt track/summer toy.. maybe get a GTI... was really excited for the cx-5... but car is wa to much $$$$

im pretty sure sti's built before 2012 were just as fast...

ive seen just as many faulty cobalt motors as sti motors.

but this is a cobalt site so trying to debunk rumours is worthless.
