where did you get him from? and how much?
We found him online on a site called greenfieldpuppies.com. He was $700 with papers/shots etc. The site seems to list for amish people that have puppies they don't want or need for their farms. He was from Ronks, PA. He's only 9 weeks, so I think it may have been a little young to bring him home, but he's adjusting.

    9 weeks is fine.

Puppies and kittens are usually mostly weened by 8 weeks.

not if you take car of them!

I have a nice 55 gallon set up with a closed lid so no smells come out of the guest bedroom!

when we picked her up from the rescue they said she was a Rott/Lab mix. the vet says shes a Pitt/Rot mix with some Lab in there.

she changes color around the year. from a light brown to a dark-ish Red.

too smart for her own good!

Pups are weened at 5 weeks, but should stay with their litter mates until at least 8 weeks for social reasons. Puppies have a window for socialization between 6-16 weeks, this is when you want to expose them to all different situations like kids, cats, washers, vacuums, other [vaccinated] dogs, door bells, big crowds (like family parties) etc.

German Shepherds have a shorter peek socialization period than other breeds for some reason. I've been to veterinary school, but I don't remember if there was a specific reason for GSD's shorter socialization time. I believe it starts at 5 weeks and goes to 10 or 11 weeks...but every dog is different so don't get too hung up on time lines. I'm sure he'll be fine with whatever you're doing.

A puppy that is removed too early from it's litter and doesn't have any further exposure to different positive situations (even a hair dryer, washer, vacuum and other odd noises can be positively introduced) tend to turn into fear biters, or just generally be more nervous and stressed than other socialized dogs.
