This is what started it all guys, the original GM "sport compact", the Corvair.
Came out in 1960, and had an aircooled 140(1960), 145(61-63) or 164ci (2.3,2.4L or 2.7L) flat six,(yes like a Porsche or Subaru, but Chevy did it first) and was rwd. They were cool little cars and would eventually be able to be had either NA or turbocharged(only the second production turbocharged car ever in America, the first was a GM car also
) up to about 220hp from the factory. This car is one reason Ford made the Mustang.
They were around for 10years before the Camaro and ChevyII's becoming huge hits, and the damage to their reputation by Ralph Naders book "Unsafe At any Speed" eventually led to production being stopped. The Corvair was only one of many things covered in his book, but it gets remembered because its the first topic. The issues with the Corvair were very similar to those of th Explorers a few years ago, and it was mostly related to tire pressure and driver education, but if you ever wondered why every modern American car understeers, this car and that book are the reason why. LOL. You an also thank the Corvair for CV axle joints at your wheels
The first/only major redesign was in 1965:
