    Default The OG.

This is what started it all guys, the original GM "sport compact", the Corvair.

Came out in 1960, and had an aircooled 140(1960), 145(61-63) or 164ci (2.3,2.4L or 2.7L) flat six,(yes like a Porsche or Subaru, but Chevy did it first ) and was rwd. They were cool little cars and would eventually be able to be had either NA or turbocharged(only the second production turbocharged car ever in America, the first was a GM car also ) up to about 220hp from the factory. This car is one reason Ford made the Mustang.
They were around for 10years before the Camaro and ChevyII's becoming huge hits, and the damage to their reputation by Ralph Naders book "Unsafe At any Speed" eventually led to production being stopped. The Corvair was only one of many things covered in his book, but it gets remembered because its the first topic. The issues with the Corvair were very similar to those of th Explorers a few years ago, and it was mostly related to tire pressure and driver education, but if you ever wondered why every modern American car understeers, this car and that book are the reason why. LOL. You an also thank the Corvair for CV axle joints at your wheels

The first/only major redesign was in 1965:

Actually the cv joint were first designed in 1926 and not by chevy. And although chevy did have the first production flat 6 it wasnt the first flat style motor and flat 4s had been in use for sometime.

With that said though I always thought corvairs were cool ass cars that were ahead of their time and greatly under appreciated!

2000 Eclipse GT 5 spd (New project! 3.8 swap plus more coming soon!)
Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you. Hope this helps!

I never said Chevy invented the CV joint, only that the Corvair was the first one to use it, and its the reason they are so common now. same for the engine never said chevy invented boxers just that they did the sixer before Porsche and Subie.

My Mom always likes to talk about the Corvair my uncle used to have, or might still have haha.

Great looking car, and that Yenko looks beastly.

Dare I ask if you've ever had the good fortune to drive one Maven?

No, I nevere got to drive in a Stinger, but Ive been numerous "regular" ones, along with Monzas and Spyders. The automatic ones have a little tiny t-handle lever on the dash for the gear selector, could easily be mistaken for a vent lever, LOL

Corvair was the first Yenko'd Chevy. They had power and chassis upgrades, they also got fiberglass bumpers and other bodywork. The easiest way to identify one is by the shape of the quarter window. Stingers have a fiberglass panel blocking off a portion of the side window, making it have a rounded corner and appear smaller, look at the gold car I posted and the one B.rad posted, you can easily this FG applique on his. Notice how the window is curved and you can actually see the "real" window shape if look through the car to the passeneger window.
