Picked up a 1986 GTI w/ VR6 swap today. Motor/Trans has 65k on it. Runs pretty good with new plugs in it. Needs new wires too. Someone in Washington state set it up for Auto-X/Road Racing... I don't know how it made it to this side of the country... but its my Beater now. 170hp/180tq in a 2000lbs car will make it a pretty quick beater too!

Can you get new covers for Recaro's? This one is beat to **** and torn in a couple spots.

Car has no Dash, bolt-in Cage, and the way to start it is ghetto as hell. I need to either find a wiring master or learn some wiring myself. I'm probably gonna swap out the ghetto wiring for some Nascar Style switchs or something.

Its a beater now... it might end up being a slow, progressive project car. We'll see.

Nice vdub. You going to weld the cage in or just remove it? Also, wiring is a pita, but once you get it down it's not too bad. Depends on if the previous owner frankensteined the electronics or not though. Good luck with it.

Probably just remove it. I need to find stockish seats and seatbelts to put back in it, if I do that though.

I really wanna track this thing. I'm pretty sure that I could hit high 13's with it. It needs some suspension modification for sure though. And it'll hop the hell out of 2nd when you first shift it.

Definitely would love some help. I'm trying to get my hands on a wiring diagram. I don't really wanna dish out $100 or so for a Bentley Manual though.

Might pick one of these up for it:



[Power] [Start] [Fuel Pump] [Head/Tail Lights]

I just need to find a Wiring Diagram for the wires that go into the Ignition Cylinder. The Fuel Pump would be easy to switch over, as would the Head/Tail Lights. I imagine the Start should be easy to figure out as well. Since I already know which wires to touch to make it start.

Should help clean things up. I need to find someone who can work metal and make me a simple aluminum/sheetmetal dash. I'd like to be able to hide the notorious VW Ratsnest.
